  • There are other special factors which can weigh on the FICO score although the credit bureaus do not disclose precisely how these FICO score variables are calculated.

  • Credit bureaus collect information from parties that have previously extended credit to you, such as a department store that issued you a credit card or a bank that granted you a personal loan. There are usually four types of information in your FICO credit report:

  • Your FICO credit report will also show inquiries from prospective lenders, landlords, insurers and others. Inquiries remain on your credit report for up to two years.

  • If you are denied credit because of something in your credit report, the lender or organization who denied you credit must give you the name and address of the credit bureau that produced the credit report. Then, you have up to 30 days to request a free copy of your report.

  • Here are the telephone numbers and USPS addresses so that you can report suspected fraud or otherwise contact the three major credit bureaus.
